Designelearn Apprentices meet employers at the Learning Technologies Show 2016

Apprentices and Staff from Barnsley College, Furness College, Sparsholt College, City College Norwich and Coralesce attended the Learning Technologies Show at Olympia on the 3rd and 4th February 2016. The event provides an annual showcase of how the Elearning Industry in Europe is operating. For the apprentices it provided the opportunity to visit stands and attend free seminars and also understand the employment opportunities for elearning designers.

Grimsby Institute Renews Membership of Designelearn

Grimsby Institute one of the founding member colleges in the AOC/SFA Curriculum Project which was set up in 2013 to develop a new apprenticeship in Digital Learning Design has renewed its membership for 2015/16. The Grimsby Institute Group (GIG) is one of England’s largest providers of Further and Higher Education. With a rich history of developing innovative training and education solutions for the community, the Group comprises of the Grimsby Institute, University Centre Grimsby (UCG), Yorkshire Coast College (YCC) in Scarborough, Lincolnshire Regional College (LRC) in Skegness, The Academy Grimsby (TAG), which offers an alternative educational route for gifted 14-16 year olds, and Lincolnshire Rural Activities Centre (LRAC) in Louth. Their Nuns Corner Campus, located in the center of Grimsby, is the main provider of vocational training in the region. It provides a broad curriculum that encompasses full and part-time provision from 14 years onwards. The vast array of training options include Further and Higher Education choices offering Apprenticeships, community provision, business training, work-based training and commercial activities. The Campus is home to the Engineering & Renewable Energy Centre, a brand new £6million Sports Centre and the Grimsby School of Art, a new £4million home for our Creative Arts courses and the £20million University Centre Grimsby. Their new Learning Innovation Manager, Graham Raddings will be their Designelearn Network representative. Graham has been appointed to manage a dedicated team to oversee the VLE, E-Learning, TPACK and SAMR strategy, and deliver support for the whole Grimsby Institute Group. Three new member colleges for 2015/16

We have 12 members for 2015/16 of which 9 were members in 2014/16 and 3 are new members. Welcome to Lakes College, Stockton Riverside, Barking & Dagenham College. Of the 21 centres approved by Ascentis to offer the Diplomas and Apprenticeships we have 11 members. Christina Conroy will be taking responsibility for coordinating the network as Nicola Malcolm left Coralesce in July to take up a new Post as a School Marketing Coordinator and Pauline Odulinski is taking up a role 3 days per week as Director of specialist Support at AOC. The apprentice led ideas challenge

Congratulations to the Sparsholt College apprentices who have won the Apprentice Led Ideas Challenge as part of  JISC’s Summer of Innovation.  They came up with the idea for an app, The Connected Apprentice and collaborated with Jisc and the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) over the summer to explore and develop their idea to make it a reality.  ...
